Ioạnnes Maurọpus, byzantinischer Dichter und Gelehrter, * in Paphlagonien Ende 10./Anfang 11. Jahrhundert, ✝ Konstantinopel nach 1082; lebte seit seiner Jugend in Konstantinopel, lehrte an der dortigen Hochschule, mit deren Reorganisation er beauftragt war; später wurde er Metropolit von Euchaita. Er wirkte vielseitig auf das geistige und wissenschaftliche Leben seiner Zeit und verfasste zahlreiche Gedichte (Kanones, Epigramme, Spottverse), Predigten und Enkomien.
